rivers and roads
What a crazy past few days it's been! I've had to say see ya later to many friends and family, pack up almost everything that I have, and move to a completely new place for 9 months. And I must say, so far I love college. Many people see college as a place to go crazy or explore themselves, but to me it's so much more than that. College is a place where I have the privilege to impact those around me in a positive way and meet so many other people like myself. I'm so excited for the opportunities UNA is going to give me!
Friday when we moved in, it was chaos. We worked so hard to make our drabby dorm room look homey. We've already taken two Walmart runs and fail to get curtain rods each time. I think our dorm room came together really well, and we did a great job with making it special to us. It really feels like home.
The students were so great helping us get unpacked and welcoming us. It's really important to have that in a new environment. After unpacking our stuff and decorating most of our room, there was a cookout for us and our families, which was really awesome that they were such a big part of my first day at UNA! I'm also so glad that Carson got to experience all of this with me because it makes him feel more comfortable since he knows I'm at such an awesome place. At 8:30 they held something called Play Fair, which was basically a bunch of games forcing us to get to know each other. While that was awkward at first, it ended up being really fun and hilarious and I really did meet some pretty cool people.
On Saturday morning we decided to go to this awesome Chinese place that my friend Matt showed me, and they definitely had college student prices. I kid you not, they had a huge plate of food for only $3.50 and it was still quality food! It was great and I had a lot of fun with my friends. Plus, we had some really relevant fortune cookies for the beginning of our college career.
Of course when I first got to UNA I realized that we left a bag at home. It just so happens that inside that bag was my bible, my journal, my agenda, my camera, my eno, some money, some pairs of nike shorts.... You know, all the most important possessions that I own. So I ended up visiting with my parents much faster than I thought I would! We met them halfway and they bought us dinner (the greatest blessing for a college student; I already know). I love having the silliest, most fun loving parents! I don't know where I get my craziness from....
In the meantime, we've done things like walk around, try to hang an eno in our room (unsuccessfully), fellowship with friends, and play soccer (well, we watched while the guys played... close enough). So far my favorite part of being here is that I'm so close to my friends and I can basically hang out with them whenever I want to! I think this is going to be an amazing experience and I could not be more in love with Florence, Alabama.
